The Three Questions

divide

When you create an e-me, you'll be asked three straighforward interview questions. You have up to 45 seconds to record and answer each one, and you can replay and re-record your answers as many times as you like.

The questions may look easy, but each one can be answered in different ways to express who you are and what makes you different from other jobseekers.

Employers are looking for stand-out candidates, so try to be original, we know you haven't any weaknesses and you work hard, but employers hear that so many times so try and be a little bit more original to catch their attention.

Question One : About you

Talk about you - what you like to do outside work or study and what you get out of it.

  • Here's your chance to speak about you as a person, to show a potential employer what you like to do outside work and study. Good areas to talk about here might include sports, travelling, socialising, reading, listening to music etc.

Tip: Think about relating some of your interests back to the kind of job that you are interested in. This helps make your answer seem more rounded, don't be one dimensional (no other interests, just work, work, work), it's good to be actively involved in something other than work or study.

Question Two : About your work experience or qualifications

Talk about your experience so far, or if you're just starting a career tell us about your qualifications and any jobs you had while studying.

  • This should be an easy one to answer. What skills and experience have you gained so far and why do you think they are relevant to the job you're applying for? If you've just graduated, tell us about the course you studied and the advantages of having a degree in your subject, relating it to the type of job or company you're keen to work for.

Tip: If you know what career you want, relating your answers to your plans will be interpreted as ambition and a clear focus on what you want to do.

Question Three : The Real You

Time to show off, why should someone employ you?

  • Here is your chance to really shine. Why are you the kind of person that a future employer is desperately looking for? What gives you the edge over other candidates?
  • What skills and personal attributes have you that would interest future employers?

Tip: Everyone responds to this question differently. It is important that you feel comfortable with way that you approach it, remember you will not convince others that you are being genuine if you haven't convinced yourself! So it's essential to only say what you believe to be true.
