“ High unemployment figures are hardly encouraging, but when times are tough the best thing for jobseekers is to find a way of standing out from the crowd. ”
Emergency budget cuts are dominating the recent news agenda, but what do they mean for the country’s employment market?
The Guardian reported an estimated 1.3 million UK job losses over the next five years: cuts to public sector spending will directly impact jobs in the sector, while the private sector will suffer a ‘knock-on’ effect.
While the government predicts a promising acceleration in job growth figures,
the CIPD warns that forecasts are “too good to be true.” So, is the job market looking bleaker than ever?
“High unemployment figures are hardly encouraging, but when times are tough the best thing for jobseekers is to find a way of standing out from the crowd,” answers Marc Fels, director of Meet The Real Me. “It’s important to stress the things that make you the ideal candidate amongst a sea of competition.”
Often most affected by fierce job competition are graduates and entry-level candidates who do not possess a long history of employment or work experience. With new developments in online recruitment, they too can remain hopeful, being able to demonstrate employers their charisma and drive to succeed.
Continues Fels: “Meet The Real Me’s video offering is ideal for candidates looking to supplement work experience and qualifications with a flavour of real personality. Video CVs allow candidates an extra edge in challenging times by showcasing qualities that are hard to convey on two-dimensional paper CVs, such as communication skills and strength of character.”
